Criteria

General Requirements

Shubert Foundation grants are awarded exclusively to US organizations, which must have current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Shubert Scholars funding may only be used for scholarship support.

The Shubert Foundation does not award scholarships directly to individuals.

Funding Criteria

Criteria range from the general to those specific to each applicant; they include:

  • Track record of exemplary theatrical training in MFA programs (Acting, Directing, Playwriting, Producing, Stage Design, etc.)

  • Notable professionals from the theatre industry among faculty

  • Recent track record of graduates who have achieved impact in the performing arts

  • Programs that consider merit and need

Guidelines

Grant requests must be submitted on The Shubert Foundation’s current online application form. Each applicant may apply in only one funding category.

Questions regarding category, criteria, and deadlines that are not answered within this or other sections of the Website should be addressed to the Foundation.

Please note the following important application information:

  • Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

  • Letters of inquiry will not be accepted.

  • The Foundation does not support fiscally sponsored organizations.

 

MFA program Eligibility

Interested MFA programs should contact the Foundation between June and September to determine if they are eligible to apply.
