The principal goal of The Shubert Foundation is to support not-for-profit, professional resident theatre and dance companies in the United States. The Foundation's Arts Related, Education and Human Services programs are smaller than those of Theatre and Dance and necessarily limited.

The Shubert Foundation awards unrestricted grants for general operating support, rather than funding for specific projects.
